Child, Adolescent & Adult Individual Therapy in Sutherland Shire & Surrounds
Journey Psychology was created by Monique Cohen (Clinical Psychologist & Psychotherapist) who had a vision to create a quiet, safe space for children and adolescents to work through their distress and arrive in a healthier place in their mind. The catalyst for this change is the use of psychotherapy based on Winnicottian ideas of therapy which embraces the notion of using “play” to engage and work with clients. This “play” can be in the form of “talking therapy” and/or the use of specific play therapy such as Sand Tray Therapy. Although the understanding of issues is held in a psychoanalytic framework, the sort of therapy used is dependent on the needs of the client which may also involve other modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Every client has a unique experience at Journey Psychology and much thought is put into each individually tailored clinical plan.
At Journey Psychology, every client and their family is treated with respect and care. Therapy is very gentle and travels at the client’s own pace. It is important that the client have control over what happens in their session and, especially with adolescents and adults, the therapeutic relationship is perceived as two people working together and sharing ideas to achieve a healing process.
“The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect, but by the play instinct.”
— Carl Jung
